Event Content Director Mike Goldsmith reveals some of the brand-new features and news planned for Expo 2022

Over the last 20+ years, AccountingWEB has put on small conferences, dinners, breakfast briefings and more, but we'd never put on an exhibition. Especially not one for thousands of accountants. In a massive football stadium. During a pandemic.

But we did it! Six months on, the question isn't 'What are you going to do?' - it's 'What are you going to do this time to make Expo 2022 even better?'

As Event Content Director, my job is to answer that question. We've listened to our accounting community, we've heard your feedback on what you liked (and - yes - what you didn't) plus we ploughed through the traffic trends and community comments to see what's popular on AccountingWEB. You told us the topics that are relevant to you, the challenges you’re up against and the speakers you really love to read.

The below is just a taster of what’s new for 2022!

Content Created By Accountants

Expo attendees loved our content last year - 91% of them told us they were likely or highly likely to attend the event in 2022. However, they also told us they wanted more content 'by accountants, for accountants' - proven advice and strategies that have been tested in the real world, by real accountants.

We are therefore delighted to announce the introduction of five co-curators to our AccountingWEB Live Expo team to help us shape our conference programme - all accountants, all top experts in their fields. Each curator will be headlining their specialised content stream, bringing their own lived accounting experience to life.

Here they are:

  • Tax & Compliance Stream: Rebecca Benneyworth MBE (Tax Talk)
  • People & Culture Stream: Lucy Cohen (Mazuma Money Co-Founder, Accounting Excellence Outstanding Contribution 2021)
  • Innovate & Inspire Stream: Carl Reader (Boss It! Author, Chairman of d&t chartered accountants)
  • Growth & Strategy Stream: Alastair Barlow (Founder of Flinder)
  • Fintech & Tech Stream: Nick Levine (ex-Deloitte's, ex-ICAEW) with AWEB Tech Editor, Tom Herbert

A Dedicated Networking Zone

Whether it was overcoming the challenges of the pandemic or looking at the oncoming (ongoing?) recession, the need for our community to come together is stronger than ever. Exhibitors and attendees alike asked for more networking opportunities at the Expo and we're happy to deliver. This year, there will be a dedicated ‘Networking Zone’ on the show floor, a space to meet and network with peers, plus there will be more networking events over the two days - cheers to that!

Interactive Roundtable Discussions

A key takeaway from Expo 2021 was just how much our audience wanted to join in the debate. So this year, we’re introducing a new series of Roundtables, mini ‘think tanks’ where industry experts and audience members join together to debate the state of the nation. Whether it’s compliance vs advisory or a deep dive into the challenges of automation, the audience can ask questions and join in the discussion whilst sitting alongside leading tech providers and star speakers.

Disrupters Den

It’s important to us that AccountingWEB Live Expo puts its tech sponsors and partners at the heart of the experience. With 75% of accountants attending to discover new products and services, we’ve heard you and we’ve listened. We’re bringing you the newest, tech start-ups in our brand-new ‘Disrupters Den’ – a dedicated space for innovative apps and small start-up services to connect with the accounting profession. Vendors will bring their product to life and demo their products to excite and peak the interest of attendees!

Ask An Expert Clinics

While our sessions come with live Q&A, we know that any exhibition or conference isn’t set up to answer specific queries. That's why we're introducing our ‘Ask An Expert Clinics’, where attendees can book a slot with an expert advisor to receive 1-to-1 advice. Keep an eye out for the experts who'll be taking bookings on everything from MTD and client experience to tech change and business advisory - all free of charge.

And all that's just for starters! Keep an eye on AccountingWEB Live Expo or follow the #AWEBLiveExpo hashtag as we start to announce our speakers over the summer. We can't wait to welcome you and bring the second edition of Expo to life!
